Below the bluff where the Lost Whale Inn and gardens are located is Abalone Cove. Two miles of beach accessible by the Inn's private trail. Explore the many tidepools with Shakers, the Inn's friendly "beach cat" and watch her hunt for hermit crabs, or walk the beach and find sea lion teeth, agates, amber and other treasures, or adventure to the south side of our cove and take a cool plunge in the waterfall you will find there.

The ocean changes its mood everyday and sea creatures abound:gray whales migrating north in the spring and south in the fall, sea lions on Pelican Rock bear their pups in the spring and the young sea lions play in the waves and sunbathe on the rocks just off the shore. Every afternoon usually brings the otters who hunt in the tidepools. May offers opportunities to view abalone divers bringing up their catch (and usually a wonderful afternoon barbeque for our guests!).

This trail is steep and while good hikers will have no problem, others may have difficulty. It's well worth it as the beach itself is a 3 mile pristine beach that few people ever visit. Therefore, the sealife there is amazing!

Enjoy our special sunset spots out on the deck, around the campfire, or even your own room- the view is always perfect at the Lost Whale Inn!
